AFTR PRTY Radio | Week 10

After a brief hiatus spent reorganizing for the fall season, AFTR PRTY Radio is back and better than ever! Don't worry, we'd never leave you guys without us for too long. To top it off, this was one of the best weeks of new music we've had in a minute. With a new single from AFTR PRTY favorite Young Nudy, two-packs of tracks from both Baby Keem and Saba, a new Cochise song, and a complete album from Lil Tecca, we couldn't be more excited to gift y'all are playlist for this week. Read about some of our highlights below and subscribe to the weekly playlist on Spotify here!

“hooligan” Baby Keem

Though he’s been carving out his own space in the hip hop scene for a minute, it’s looking like 2020 is going to be a big year for Baby Keem. XXL (in their notoriously late fashion) recently included Keem in this year’s Freshman class. Following up right on the tail of this nomination, Baby Keem just dropped a pair of brand new tracks, titled “hooligan” and “sons & critics freestyle.” The 19-year-old rapper, hailing from Carson, California, released these singles on pg-Lang, a creative community/company founded by Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free. On “hooligan,” Baby Keem brings his typical blend of charm and intensity to characteristically clean, straightforward production. Watch the video for “hooligan” (directed by Jake Schreier) above.

“Mrs. Whoever” by Saba

This week, we’ve been gifted with a second carefully curated two-pack of singles from Chicago’s very own Saba. Though he’s released with a couple of different collectives, this is his first solo work since he dropped his item CARE FOR ME in 2018. On “Mrs. Whoever,” a self-produced track, Saba shows off his knack for timing with carefully suspended syllables over instrumental-heavy production.

“Don’t Hide” by Kilder

Kilder, a Dutch electronic music producer and DJ, is one of our most recently discovered artists. The second in a string of four singles, “Don’t Hide” is set to be the title track of Kilder’s upcoming debut EP. This velvety smooth, genre-stretching, electronic-pop-r&b production cascades into a perfect combination of feel-good melody and a tempo that encourages us to bop our heads on even the most sluggish days.

"Lost It" by Cochise

Today, Cochise brings us yet another buoyant, high energy single with “Lost It.” Many have noticed that the Palm Bay, Florida rapper’s baby voice and ad-libs are sometimes unsettlingly similar to a certain mumble rapper we all know and love (I literally thought Dig Me Freestyle was a Carti leak when I first found it on Spotify). With “Lost It” marking Cochise’s fifth single of 2020, one arena in which he differs drastically from Carti, though, is that he’s actually releasing music this year. All jokes aside, Cochise and his baby voice seem to be carving out their own lane, finding an unbreakable melodic stride with unmatched dynamism.

“Fine Ass” by Kalan.FrFr

Our last highlight from this week is something of a (somewhat) hidden gem from Kalan.FrFr’s 2018 album, TwoFr. Though the song achieved some remarkable momentum, its streams on Spotify seem to have plateaued at just shy of 3 mil. This week, we want to give the LA-based singer-rapper some well-deserved attention. On “Fine Ass,” Kalan.FrFr’s perfectly nasally flows boast impressive stamina from start to finish, accompanied by a beat chock full of sparkling synths and 808 rolls. This track has all the bounce you need to carry your Friday night.
