AFTR PRTY Radio | Week 14

We’re back at it again with AFTR PRTY Radio Week 14! Though this Friday wasn’t as generous as we’d hoped, last Friday thankfully brought us more new music than we could handle. As always, we’ve curated an absolutely stellar list of recent releases and standout up-and-coming artists. Highlights this week include a mesmerizing new single from Q, our pick from Lil Poppa’s latest, a standout debut album from DB Omerta, a gem of a track from German rapper Boondawg, and Lil Loaded’s eagerly awaited sophomore mixtape. Follow the weekly playlist here.

"To The Max" by Lil Loaded

After releasing his first song in June of 2019 (see “B.O.S.”, a homage to YNW Melly’s “Butter Pecan”), Lil Loaded burst onto the center stage the very next month with his breakout track “6locc 6a6y,” which has racked up over 30 million streams on Spotify since. The 20-year-old rapper dropped his sophomore mixtape A Demon In 6lue last Friday, bringing us 15 new tracks and two remixes. His choppy, explosive, guttural flow—rendered especially emotive by his characteristic over-enunciation—takes center stage on this project. His sound is a natural choice for high-intensity songs such as “Lil Bro” or “Narco,” but proves to be remarkably versatile, somehow sticking to the melody on tracks like “To The Max” and “Showdown.” Having spent the bulk of his childhood in San Bernardino, California, and the entirety of his adolescence in Dallas, Texas, Lil Loaded told XXL, “It’s hard to compare me. I’m from California, you can hear that, but I still got the southern drawl, too.”

“Rules” by Lil Poppa

Lil Poppa dropped his latest album Evergreen Wildchild 2 on May 29 of this year and recently followed up with the deluxe this past Friday. On his most recent project, the 20-year-old rapper continues to make authenticity a priority, writing lyrics that speak to his personal experiences growing up. Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, Lil Poppa’s southern drawl and laid back, melodic flow seem to effortlessly glide over any beat.

“Take Me Where Your Heart Is” by Q

On “Take Me Where Your Heart Is,” 21-year-old R&B artist Q sounds more polished than ever. This single was released last Friday in preparation for the Broward County, Florida native’s third project later this fall, and we can only hope that these silky smooth falsettos and sunny instrumentals are a preview of what’s to come.

“How I’m Feeling” by DB Omerta

After signing to Atlantic Records, Atlanta rapper DB Omerta dropped his debut album, titled TheOneTheyDoubted, in June of this year. Standing at 11 tracks, this project is short and sweet—and with just a single guest verse from Quin Nfn, DB Omerta proves that he can do the legwork to carry a full-length project as a solo artist. With production credits from several big-name producers, including jetsonmade, CashMoneyAp, D.A Got That Dope, and Hitmaka, this album is a must-listen from front to back. On “How I’m Feeling” jetsonmade brings bright, squeaky clean production to DB Omerta’s breezy, melodic flow.

“Nobody Pray for Me” by Boondawg

Boondawg’s latest single, “Nobody Pray For Me,” is an easy favorite this week. Based out of Düsseldorf, Germany, the 21-year-old rapper still remains somewhat of a mystery, but he is certainly one to watch. On this track, he flaunts his knack for timing as he raps over a crisp acoustic guitar instrumental, switching effortlessly between multiple different flows.
