“2Night”, Hook

At the end of May, Hook blessed us with her third full-length project, I Love You 2, Hook, produced primarily by 2Thousan9. On this 9 song gem (a true quarantine blessing), the Riverside, California artist continues to cultivate her unique sound. Our personal favorite track, “2Night” features collaborative production from her frequent collaborator NEDARB and New York underground rap major player Tony Seltzer. Earlier this year, NEDARB--who produced both her debut and sophomore albums--shared more on why he loves working with Hook with The Fader: “She’s the most unique rapper I’ve heard in a long time. Her energy is unmatched on tracks, her flows are her own, her ad-libs especially are her own, and her live performances go crazy.”

"Stayback", Omar Apollo

Omar Apollo is gearing up for his upcoming project with his latest single, “Stayback.” The song is accompanied by an Aidan Cullen-directed visual, in which the 23 year-old singer attends the wild summer night pool party that we’re all dreaming of right now. “I can’t help that you’ve been on my mind,” Apollo opens--crooning soulfully after an unrequited love on a beautifully mixed pop-funk-r&b ballad.

"Deadly Assassination Summer Squad", Guapdad 4000

This latest offering from Guapdad 4000’s generous summer singles streak, showcases the Oakland, California singer-rapper’s ability to switch effortlessly between breathy vocals and exacting flow. “Deadly Assassination Summer Squad” is Guapdad’s fifth single in the past month and a half, so fans can only hope that he’s building momentum for a new project.

"Traplanta", Lil Keed

Atlanta rapper Lil Keed’s second major-label project (via 300 Entertainment and YSL), Trapped on Cleveland 3, boasts contributions from trap superstars such as Young Thug, Future, Gunna, Lil Baby, and Travis Scott, yet his characteristically pitchy, melodic flow undoubtedly takes center stage. Featuring silky flutes and boisterous 808s, JetsonMade’s production sets “Traplanta” apart as an early team favorite.

"Swimming", Deb Never

Released just shy of a year ago, Deb Never’s debut EP, House on Wheels, is far from new--yet the Korean-American singer-songwriter still remains remarkably underappreciated. Deb Never’s acoustic guitar meets hip-hop-influenced 808s and hi-hats on “Swimming,” a long-time favorite track of ours. The LA-based artist exhibits a real honesty that exudes a sort of gentle, familiar darkness: she laments, “I’ve been swimming in a pool of money / I keep drowning in false hope / I keep swimming in a pool of phony / People I don’t even know.”
