Best Outfits from our Favorite Shows: Friends

What would the 90s and early 2000s have looked like without Friends? Besides the endless laughs, Friends provided fans with all the style inspiration we needed. In honor of the reunion special released last month, let’s appreciate Rachel, Ross, Monica, Joey, and Phoebe's best fashion moments from one of the most popular sitcoms of all time.

Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston, is undoubtedly a style icon. Her fashion has continued to inspire today as the trends from the 90s come back around. Although it might not be one of Rachel’s most memorable looks, this classic outfit is one of the best she wore on the show. It’s definitely something you’d see a model off-duty rocking on the streets of New York City today. The brown patent leather coat and black shift dress pair perfectly together since they hit at the same length. Her chic thigh-high leather boots with a square toe and chunky heel take this look to the next level. Some key pieces to emulate Rachel’s refined style include a black mini skirt, sheer black tights, and a white long sleeve shirt.

Ross

“The One With All The Resolutions” from Season 5 has got to be one of the funniest episodes of Friends, which also featured Ross’s best look, even though the rest of the group roasted his fit. He lands a date and decides to dress to impress with an oversized collared button-down and leather pants. The all-black ensemble paired with a silver watch is an outfit that has stood the test of time.

Phoebe

It’s safe to say Phoebe Buffay’s clothes have influenced several generations. From the mid-90s to the present, elements from her outfits have made repeated appearances in fashion trends. Lisa Kudrow’s character didn’t shy away from bright colors, eccentric patterns, and funky knits. Her quirky and unique sense of style is best captured in this flowy tie-dye midi dress. The butterfly handbag cleverly brings out the colors in her dress while adding a whimsical flair. A white cardigan with sheer paneling and strappy heels complete one of her glamorous looks. To replicate her style, embroidered sweaters, maxi skirts, and colorful prints are a must.

Monica

Although Monica Geller’s aesthetic isn’t as risk-taking as Rachel’s or Phoebe’s, her staple outfits would be stylish in any decade. Her most quintessential look in Season 1, Episode 19, "The One Where the Monkey Gets Away," is also one of her most casual ones — a crisp white button-up, dark blue jeans, and black boots. A black belt and silver accessories pull the whole look together. Her simple style made from basic pieces can be replicated with items you probably already own. Monica’s primary wardrobe essentials include high-waisted straight-legged jeans, a black t-shirt, black boots, and a red blouse with an interesting neckline.

Joey

Joey Tribbiani, played by Matt LeBlanc, is probably recognized for his more comedic outfits like his hilarious layered look in “The One Where No One’s Ready” from Season 3. However, he did manage to appear put together every once in a while. This gray tweed pea coat was a welcomed deviation from his typical attire. Its traditional tailoring and ideal length make it a staple piece to last a lifetime. A white turtleneck, black scarf, and black loafers add the perfect touch of sophistication that made fans do a double-take.
